How does vocational rehab work in Minnesota?

If you have experienced a work-related accident or injury in Minnesota, you may be learning about various programs available to help you. For example, you may seek workers’ compensation benefits to receive financial assistance while you are unable to work. You may also wish for some help in preparing to return to work. In this situation, you may benefit from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry’s Vocational Rehabilitation unit services.

This unit is designed primarily to help people like you who have had a workers’ compensation claim denied by an employer or insurer although it can offer services to all employees as well. The goal of the group’s work is to help you get back to work. This can be in your original job, with your original employers, in a new job with your original employer, or in a new job with a new employer. The services offered are comprehensive, covering everything from vocational evaluation to vocational counseling to job placement and more.

If your claim has been denied and you are interesting in taking advantage of the Vocational Rehabilitation unit’s services, you will first need to file a dispute form with the court. After that has been done, you may request your vocational rehab services. If you are approved for the service, you will meet with a Qualified Rehabilitation Consultant to develop your personal work rehabilitation plan.

If you want to learn more about vocational rehabilitation after an on-the-job injury, you may visit the injured worker rehab page on our Minnesota workers’ compensation website.
