Vocational rehab after an on-the-job injury

If you have been injured on the job, you may not be able to perform your job due as you did before. If this happens to you, you may be able to benefit from the Minnesota program that offers vocational rehabilitation. This is a way that people can be retrained to get them back to work.

According to the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, there are three main criteria that must be met in order for you to receive these rehabilitation services. In addition to your injuries preventing you from performing your job, your employer must not have any other job available that you can actually do. Finally, it must be determined that the training will get you to the point where you can perform a job at your company.

The first step generally in obtaining vocational rehabilitation services is the request for an evaluation. This should be made by the workers’ compensation insurer or the employer. However, if this does not happen, you may make a request to either of them to have an evaluation. If they do not approve the request, you can file a dispute with the DLI directly. Once you have an evaluation with a qualified rehabilitation consultant, a plan for your job training will be due within 30 days. After a 15-day review period, the finalized plan should be ready.
