Three workers suffered injuries after an incident on a construction project in Minnesota. The three were rushed to the hospital, but none of the workers suffered any serious injuries. Timberwood Church is a large church in Nisswa that needed space for its parishioners. The church hired Nor-Son, Inc. to build a 21,000 foot addition that will give the church more office space and space for its congregants. Construction on the project began in July and ran smoothly until the incident, which occurred several months later.
According to the official police report, the accident occurred when several trusses used to support the building collapsed. Though there were other workers on the scene, only three suffered any injuries. Rescue workers helped remove each of the injured workers from the collapsed building and to the hospital. An official statement later released stated that all three were recovering and fine. Both the church and the company they worked for released statements about the incident.
Though the construction workers involved in this accident walked away with only minor injuries, others aren’t so lucky. A workplace accident may lead to serious injuries that prevent an employee from going back to work for a prolonged period of time. Some accidents may even prevent employees from ever working again.
One way for workers to get the compensation they deserve is through a workers’ compensation claim. Employers must have insurance that pays out when an employee receives an injury on the job or face penalties from the state. Benefits that may be available include reimbursement or payment of the costs of medical care and ongoing treatment as well as a percentage of wages lost due to the injured claimant’s inability to work.
