Minnesota residents who work in certain job fields face greater danger than others of being involved in serious workplace accidents. People who work in the oil and gas and construction sectors are examples of those workers. Industrial workers also face the daily risk of sustaining an on-the-job injury or even being the victim of a fatal work accident.
The combination of dangerous equipment, high scaffolding or ladders, explosive materials and more is part of what makes these lines of work more dangerous than others. A man who worked at a machining company in Hibbing and his co-workers know this from their own experiences. Early one Tuesday morning, the employee found himself trapped beneath a large piece of machinery. It is not known what the equipment was or how he came to be pinned beneath it. There was no mention in reports as to whether or not an investigation will begin in the incident.
Emergency crews were called to the site. By the time they arrived, the injured worker had been removed from under the machinery. He was noted by emergency responders to be in cardiac arrest upon their arrival. That was at roughly 7:00 a.m. He was taken first to one hospital but transferred to another in Duluth. His condition upon arriving at the second hospital is unknown.
Situations like this can arise in the blink of an eye. Even well-trained and seasoned professionals can become victims.
