Construction workers in Minnesota face some of the most dangerous working conditions possible. Every day, they literally put their lives at risk to perform their job duties. It is no surprise that the construction industry is known to have a relatively high rate of workplace accidents compared to some other industries. Falls from scaffolding, a ladder fall, a forklift accident or some other machinery accident can all leave a construction worker suffering from serious injuries. Many accidents are even more tragic and result in fatalities.
The Occupational Health Safety Administration monitors workplace safety, including issuing specific regulations and protocol for some procedures or pieces of equipment. Violations of these guidelines can lead to the imposition of fines, even if an accident has not occurred. Currently, there is work being done on the U.S. Bank Stadium where the Minnesota Vikings play. Berwald Roofing Company is a contractor involved in the construction.
According to reports, Berwald Roofing Company has amassed a total of nine violations of OSHA’s safety rules in a period of five years. It is not known if accidents were involved in any of these violations. It has been indicated that the failure to use proper safety harnesses by employees was noted in many of the instances. A recent death of a worker on the jobsite is currently under investigation. Whether or not a safety harness was involved is yet to be determined.
With serious consequences on the line, every construction worker needs to be careful. They should also be able to count on the safety of their work environment and support of their employer. When a construction worker accident happens, talking to an attorney may be helpful.
