Strap breaks free, dropping generator from crane

| Feb 24, 2016 | Construction Workers' Accidents |

Construction workers in Connecticut and their family members know that there is always a risk that a serious accident could happen on a construction job site. That knowledge, however, does not take away from the emotional challenges that accident victims or their families must endure when a critical event actually takes place.

Several people are left suffering today after a tragic accident on a construction site in the norther part of New Jersey that involved three workers. For one worker who was injured, broken bones, a collapsed lung, and other injuries to a leg were the result of the incident. Two other workers lost their lives, one being declared dead at the scene of the accident and the other dying later on after being taken to a hospital.

The accident took place on a Thursday morning at what will eventually be a fire house in Morris County. The Occupational Safety Health Administration has launched an investigation into the event to learn more. Details are needed about what caused a strap holding a generator on a crane to break. The generator was reported to weigh 10,000 pounds. It fell from the crane after the strap broke, killing the two men and injuring the third. Initial information did not disclose if any safety violations are yet suspected in the case.

Accidents like this can impact not just those who are injured or killed but their co-workers as well as their friends and relatives. People in this situation may wish to consult with an attorney to learn what options for compensation may exist.
