Factory workers face potentially catastrophic hazards at work

On Behalf of | Mar 24, 2025 | Workplace Injuries |

Factory workers across this country provide valuable services that help to keep the economy moving in the right direction. Each of those workers is at risk of specific injuries, partially because of the nature of the work.

Employers have a duty to keep their employees safe, even in factory situations where there are known hazards. This requires them to have proper safety protocols and equipment. When that’s lacking, the employees can suffer catastrophic injuries. Two of the common hazards factory workers face include:

Exposure to chemicals

Many processes in factories involve chemicals, so it’s critical that all factory workers understand how to use those safely. All employees should have access to the material safety data sheets. They should familiarize themselves with the usage and treatment information before using the chemicals.
Proximity to moving machinery

Moving machinery can lead to significant injuries, so workers should understand the moving path of every machine they work around. Safety guards and clearly marked safety zones should be present for each machine. Employers should set specific protocols, including forbidding loose clothing or hair, to help prevent those items from being caught in the moving machinery.

Employees who suffer an injury at work should ensure they get medical attention right away. The expenses related to this should be covered by workers’ compensation, and there may be other benefits that the workers are due. Some might have to fight for those benefits, so it’s beneficial for them to work with someone familiar with these matters.
