Under Minnesota law, workers’ compensation (WC) is a state-mandated program provided by employers to their employees who get injured or sick on the job. This no-fault insurance provides medical assistance and wage loss compensation for any injured employee without needing to prove fault.
Here are three commonly asked questions about the state’s WC benefits:
What types of benefits does WC offer?
Your WC insurance can pay for your doctor’s visits, hospital bills and prescription medicines. Depending on your injury or illness, the scope of medical treatments available may also include surgical, chiropractic, podiatric and/or psychological.
Minnesota WC also provides wage loss benefits for any employee whose workplace accident has caused them a temporary or permanent disability.
What if I need rehabilitation for my injury?
If your injury needs rehabilitation treatments, you must file a rehabilitation consultation request with your employer. They will have 14 days to respond or deny your request. In this process, your employer and their insurer will determine whether your injury is severe enough to require the benefit.
What if my checks are late?
If you are receiving late benefit payments, you can request a review of your claim’s file with a member of the Compliance, Records and Training unit for a penalty assessment. You must provide them with proof of three or more “late” benefit payments through your compensation check stubs.
By understanding your rights and following the proper legal procedures, you can receive the compensation you deserve and focus on your recovery free of financial worries.
